Letter from the President
Welcome to the
Mortgage Bankers Association
of the Carolinas
From: R. Bryan Wright
Welcome to the Mortgage Bankers Association of the Carolinas.
I have had the privilege of being a part of MBAC for over two decades. There has been no other organization or affiliation that has helped shape my career the way this organization has. It has helped catapult me from someone who was once simply a transaction taker to someone today who fully embraces the industry today and stands side by side my peers in protecting the industry that I care deeply about.
The impact has been a result of the relationships, training, and steady flow of industry related news designed to improve the way I operate and the way I view the industry. Knowledge truly is power and MBAC has armed with the knowledge I need to be successful. This story is not mine alone but the same story of those who are members of what has been hailed by many as the best Mortgage Bankers Association in the country.
Today we find ourselves in a climate that we have not seen for nearly a decade. Contraction and compression are terms we are hearing daily. We have entered a time that mergers and acquisitions are becoming the norm. Corporate layoffs are being announced almost weekly. For the first time in a long time … there are more “butts than there are seats” in our industry.
Do not interpret this as gloom and doom. It is a cycle that our industry goes through. Truthfully we have been fortunate not to have had this cycle happen in the last decade and typically we would have had two of these during this time. Most industry experts believe this will last for 36-48 months, whereas these cycles typically last around 18 months.
Now is the time that our voice-your voice-needs to be heard. We need to be unified to make certain that we are one voice aligned to protect our industry and those we serve. It is not a time to depend on the person in the office next to you or your peer down the street to act…it is your responsibility to truly embrace the industry as whole.
I appreciate this association. I appreciate those who give of their time, their knowledge, and their resources to make certain that our industry is protected. My father always said, “Do the right thing and you will get the right result.” Those of you who are members and engaged in this association, I applaud you and ask that you continue to do the right thing. Those of you not involved that are looking to have a voice in the industry and take your profession to a new level I encourage to “do the right thing and get involved.”
We are growing. Our voice is becoming louder, stronger, and more focused. This is going to be a great year because of you and your actions.
Thanks you for what you do and I look forward to seeing you in the very near future.
